About this role
About the role
Vectara is looking for an entrepreneurial front-end engineer to join our growing front-end engineering team. This team is responsible for our flagship Console product, company website, and Vectara UI React component library.
You will work closely with our Head of Front-End Engineering and UX—a hybrid designer/engineer—and a product-focused team of front-end engineers. You will own strategic technical and architectural decisions and shape our rigorous engineering culture, with meaningful autonomy and direct impact on how our customers use and benefit from our product.
What you’ll work on
You’ll team up with product managers, designers, and back-end engineers to implement broad enhancements and new features in the UI of our flagship Console product. You’ll independently seek out and propose improvements that will unlock growth and enable productivity.
Beyond Console, you’ll partner with cross-functional leaders such as Product Marketing, Developer Relations, and Growth Marketing, and seek ways to apply your skills to their problems in these sibling domains. You’ll help these folks build the front-ends for demos, OSS projects, and marketing materials.
What we’re looking for
We are open to both mid-level and senior candidates. Senior engineers will be given greater autonomy and strategic responsibility.
Core skills and experience
• You’re effective with TypeScript and React.
• You communicate clearly and effectively in writing.
• You’re comfortable solving ambiguous problems with a methodical approach.
• You seize the initiative and find problems to solve. You're able to help understand the broader business context of these problems and are a great partner in driving their prioritization.
• You’re curious and love to learn new things.
What sets you apart
• You’re excited to solve challenging engineering problems in the browser with JavaScript and TypeScript. Your work shows that you understand how to analyze and decompose problems. You know how to methodically design and implement high-quality, maintainable solutions.
• You also have experience concisely articulating your thoughts in writing, through RFCs, design docs, or other documents. You understand how to organize and present technical information so it’s accessible and useful to the audience, regardless of the audience’s technical background.
• You have a track record of using these engineering and communication skills to achieve great outcomes for engineering teams, businesses, and users. You’ll continue to build upon this track record at Vectara.
Why you’ll love this role
• You will have real ownership over how we build, deploy, and maintain our codebases.
• Your work will be highly visible and directly impact customers and our success as a business.
• You will be a leader on a highly technical engineering team that has a key role in Vectara’s success.
• You will help shape an engineering culture that scales as the company doubles in size over the next year.
• You will receive equity and participate in the long-term upside of the company.
